It seems the longer we wait for our referral, the more drastic my hair will become.

Please be nice. I have lost all self control, CAN’T YOU SEE THAT?!?
I do like it. And for a few days, at least, if I want to think about something else besides our adoption wait, I can look in the mirror and think “something happened to my hair” instead. Which is actually LOADS more entertaining than my daily inner monologue as of late.
Just to give you an idea, this is what goes on everyday inside the command center of the Battle Station:
How much longer. HOW MUCH LONGER!?! I wonder if anyone got their referral today. I bet there were, like, TWENTY referrals today! I’ll check my email. Hmmm, no referrals. I’ll check again. Hmmm, still no referrals. Maybe now. Nope. Now? No. Now. No. Now. No…… I’ll check again in a few minutes.
And that right there, folks, is a readers digest version of what it’s like to wait for a referral. Which we have been doing for 7 months now.
But enough about that, what do you think of my HAIR?!
Oh and I almost forgot! THANK YOU for the comments on the last post. I am writing the other Mother a note to thank her for her note. And I loved the suggestions to talk it out with Delaney next time instead of making her repeat “ego chants” and then going on a wild witch hunt. You guys sure are good about thinking about stuff. (That last sentence was supposed to be said with a country drawl). Here’s an interhug for you. And if you all ever need advice on how to handle a tough situation involving, say, your tivo. You just let me know. I am THERE. There for YOU.
Speaking of Tivo. Off to watch American Idol. YAY! Adoption wait? What?

The hair is fan-freaking-tastic! Coincidentally, I ran into a formerly blond friend at the store today. (She reminds me a lot of you) Brown. Chestnut brown. She looks awesome too. Gonna have to redo that shampoo bottle…..

What did you think of Idol? I liked several of them– this will be great, something to look forward to, like 3 nights a week right now.
Speaking of Tivo, can you imagine how sad they must be with the writers strike? So bored I bet.
Oh, the hair….like you mixing it up a bit. This waiting stuff is hard. I have an appt on Thursday– dare me to do something drastic??

I think it’s beautiful and makes your eyes pop out more. You look darkly mysterious and vastly intelligent. I have printed the picture out and hung it in my room over an altar with candles and incense.
Just kidding about the stalker-altar, but serious about the rest.
January 16th, 2008 at 12:42 am, Jennifer England Says:
Ok… the pink bik razor is coming out, cause I can’t handle how gorgeous you look!
January 16th, 2008 at 12:52 am, Melissa Says:
Ok, I really like you and hate you all at the same time. You look beautiful!
January 16th, 2008 at 1:02 am, Brooke Says:
I love it… it’s gorgeous.

so when i said your blog was my favorite, yesterday, on my blog- i meant it. and this is exactly why.
you’re real, and funny… despairing and yet not wallowing… i love it.
And yes, your hair is fantastic! i love it too!
now, i am going to email you, because i am confused… (i think it’s the sugar beets. they are inhibiting my brain from proper function.)
January 16th, 2008 at 1:25 am, julie Says:
Love it. It looks more mature, somehow, than the blond but maybe that’s just the stereotypes speaking. Which, given I’m a dark honey blond myself is not meant to be offensive at all, just a statement. Beautiful. Your hair is so freakishly healthy looking. What do you wash it with? Rainbows and kittens?
We’re awaiting the next step in our adoption, the pre-approval (PA) from the US Embassy. That pesky little document that says the kid we have a referral for actually qualifies as an orphan by US law.
We decided to pursue adoption 8 months and 1 day ago and we’re looking at a minimum of 4 more months. I’m ready to crawl under my bed until June…but I’ll need my laptop there with me so I can do the same thing. “I’ll just check the forum. no? no one? wait, did I just see one? no, she was talking about going to PA. refresh? no? maybe no one wants to mention it…I’ll just start a thread ASKING if there are any new ones… any posters? No? Now? No? Now?…”
Yep, you’re in my head.
I hope you get news soon. Big photo-filled news.

holy comment hijaking, Batman. Sorry for the mega comment above. I went off on a tangent and failed to self-edit.
January 16th, 2008 at 1:28 am, Stacy Says:
I LOVE your hair… I know, that means so much coming from someone who is basically a complete stranger. I have natural blonde too and love going dark. Actually just got mine chopped tonight and the purple red put on.
Be careful though, as a blonde, depending on how fast your hair grows, in about 3-4 weeks, your roots are going to make you look like your balding. Definitely have to keep up with the dark colors more regularly than the blonde! But you look hot which is what really counts.
January 16th, 2008 at 1:57 am, Tarah Says:
I love your hair color! How fun. You look fabulous with dark hair.
(lots of crying uncontrollably)
I was OK during the wait for referral, but oh my, the wait to travel was hell. I think everyone carried tissues in case they saw me.
January 16th, 2008 at 2:20 am, chou2 Says:
I can’t help on the waiting - I was (still am) a basketcase. But the hair! OMG! You look freaking amazing. GORGEOUS. Stunning. A modern Jackie O. And maybe a little Cameron Diaz too. I don’t know - just beautiful.
January 16th, 2008 at 4:03 am, Julie Says:
WOW. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Who’d have thought you’d make such a gorgeous brunette???
January 16th, 2008 at 4:05 am, Emma Says:
HOT.
Then again, you could probably shave all your hair off and still look hot.
January 16th, 2008 at 4:51 am, Valerie at Home Says:
Love the hair and the pink jacket and how in the world do you get away with a white sofa?!?
The waiting is a pain. An awful, huge, stress-inducing pain. We had to wait an extra month for travel approval and an extra 6 weeks to travel because the *one printer in all of China* that prints out those papers was broken and the consulate got flooded with appointment requests once it was back online. Now *that’s* frustrating.
January 16th, 2008 at 8:24 am, Dana Says:
Sweet hair! Now you can’t be confused for the lady on the shampoo bottle, LOL! (cause we all know that’s the real reason why you did it * wink wink *)
January 16th, 2008 at 9:51 am, dawn Says:
I love love love love love your hair. You look awesome. It is so funny that you have done that, as we will be 7 months in on our wait this weekedn and I was so considering coloring my hair a redish color as my hair is brown and I would make a really bad blond.
Waiting is really hard. We are using AAI and are now very close to the top of the list for a referral. Our agency just handed out something like 8-10 infant referrals this week with a few more to come next week. Waiting is hard. You do is graciously. I am very impressed. I am a much better waiter this time around than I was the first time.
Best of luck to you. I can’t wait to hear about your referral. What agency are you using?
January 16th, 2008 at 10:18 am, Rachel Says:
I have been a reader for a while, but haven’t ever commented. My friend calls this “blurking”. Anyway, I LOVE your hair! It is really cute. And I also completely understand how frustrated you are with the wait for a referral. We have 3 adopted kids (all came home in 2007) and the wait for them just about drove me crazy. I didn’t dye my hair, but I did just about every other nutty thing you can think of and spent waaayyy too much time hitting refresh on my email in hopes that there would be an update. You aren’t alone - there are lots of crazy pre-adoptive mommies slowly loosing their minds all over the country.

January 16th, 2008 at 10:30 am, Ericka Says:
You are so stinkin cute, your hair could be purple (and maybe has???) and you would still be beautiful.
How fun, very sophisticated!!!
I read a VERY cool post about waiting (in regards to adoption), I’ll try to find it and post it back to you.
Interhugs back to you
January 16th, 2008 at 10:33 am, becca Says:
I love it! It looks great on you. There’s no better combo than brown hair and blue eyes! Plus , it looks kind of like mine. And I appreciate you copying me. Imitation is flattering.
On the waiting, I’m sorry. I hate it. They obviously have no idea that you guys have a mini-van AND extensive experience with two sets of fugees. I hope it’s soon!
January 16th, 2008 at 10:55 am, Lou Says:
Girl, you are hilarious…..I think if we ever sat down to a cup of coffee (now that you’re not Mormon
we would be there for hours! I LOVE the dark hair. You look fabulous…… If you look at the bottom of my blog there’s the video from where we met Anne Pearce. THAT one is full of blubbering and unflattering crying (me).
January 16th, 2008 at 11:14 am, Jess Says:
The hair looks great and I am totally jealous at how well you are able to pull off such drastically different looks.
Also, the stress of waiting for a referral! I’m crossing my fingers in hopes that it will happen SOON. Like, today.
January 16th, 2008 at 11:47 am, Renee in Seattle Says:
My first thought when I saw your hair:
“Oh, Brittney!”
my second thought:
You look so good! In fact, you look like me now! Only prettier, and skinnier, and younger. You look like I looked I did when I was 26 (sigh). I wonder how many bottles of bleach it would take for me to go from dark brown to blond?
While I was waiting, I sewed a baby quilt and bumper pad for my baby-to-be, which is pretty insane considering my incredible lack of any sewing skills or ownership of sewing machine. I did it BY HAND.
January 16th, 2008 at 11:58 am, mandy Says:
That hair color is fantastic! It looks great on you! The saying about blondes having more fun…its not true…us brunettes–we know how to rock it!
Hope you get your referal soon!
January 16th, 2008 at 12:17 pm, Jennifer Says:
Love your hair!!
I wish I was brave to just go and change my hair color!
Looks Fabulous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
January 16th, 2008 at 12:22 pm, Sandcastle Momm Says:
Your hair looks fantastic! It really brings out your eyes. It’s hard to go from light to dark but you’ve really pulled it off. You look great!
January 16th, 2008 at 2:41 pm, Karen Says:
So the chemicals from the dye will numb my brain and make me forget about waiting for a referral for a while? I’ll have to try that one…Thanks!
(AND YOU LOOK ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS! But I’m sure Mike’s already told you that. If not, he should have!)
January 16th, 2008 at 3:17 pm, Angela Says:
You look amazing as a brunette! Welcome to the world of Brownie’s
January 16th, 2008 at 3:30 pm, Lori Says:
LOVE THE HAIR!! Brunette’s DO have less fun, but are smarter! Hehehehe! You look fabu!
It’s tempting not to cut it off, right???!!!
I’m sooooo thrilled that AI is finally back… and we don’t need to wait a whole week for the next show! Yaaaa hoo! Tivo, couldn’t live without it. We usually wait until a show has started a half hour or so before watching so we can FF the commercials…. see how smart brunettes are!? xo Lor
January 16th, 2008 at 5:08 pm, haze Says:
DAYUM! You look great as a brunette. The hair color does great things for your eyes.
7 months is a long time to wait. Hang in there, it won’t be long now, I hope… Maybe when I hit the 7-month point I’ll go blond ;-P
January 16th, 2008 at 5:50 pm, Erica B. Says:
So……I saw you in person today and I too am liking the dark hair version of Jamie. Very different, but very good. I too am usually ALWAYS blonde and got negative comments when I went brown, but I do really like your darkness and think only you (perfect skin person) could pull off that drastic of a change and still look amazing! Good call. I agree with the Cameron Diaz comparison……it TOTALLY makes your blue eyes pop! Love ya!
January 16th, 2008 at 6:59 pm, Lori Says:
Ok, I thought of one more thing to add to my comment…. you need to make a goofy or silly face or something to proove that this is you…. See, not only did you do a more serious looking hair color, but the jacket and formal smile are much to harsh for you…. You’re still getting used to this new look I’m sure!
January 16th, 2008 at 8:05 pm, Tam Says:
Holy crap! I freakin’ LOVE it!
January 16th, 2008 at 11:50 pm, my minivan is faster than yours Says:
Your hair is gorgeous and you’re hilarious and I was wondering if we could be best friends?
We can?
Cool.
January 17th, 2008 at 1:41 am, Rebecca Says:
like it. love it! Are you shocked every time you look in the mirror though? When I decide to go back to dark, I’m always thrown off when I see my reflection. I can’t believe that I actually have dark hair. It’s too hard for me to adjust long term though - I always go back to my natural (as in born with it and it stayed that color until high school) color. Blonde.
January 17th, 2008 at 9:41 am, Half-Past Kissin' Time Says:
The hair is gorgeous (of course, it helps a lot when you put gorgeous hair on a beautiful face, but whatever…I love it.)
Looks like you are nesting…. I’ll pray for you, that you nest will soon be crowded!
January 17th, 2008 at 11:02 am, Jen Says:
Hang in there, girl! Your hair looks fabulous, you are fabulous and your referral will come soon. And, when you get that photo, all this crap will melt away. Trust me. I can say that now that we have our adorable little Amara. Take care!
January 17th, 2008 at 11:47 am, Chandra Says:
Wow Jamie!! You look awesome (as usual)!!
I’m sorry about the wait for referral. When we hit 7 months I had a few frustrating days. I am hoping your hear some very, VERY wonderful news soon. You know what ALL I did to occupy my time w/the wait. Maybe you should try it? Lol. I kid, I kid.
Try to have a good day. Tivo as much as you can, get lots of snacks and please email/call if you ever want to chat!
Thinking of you,
Chandra

See you soon!

Love the hair- I think you should keep it brown
We are on month 10+ wait and now they are saying another six months?! I am going totally insane too, so, so frustrated. You are in good company chica.
January 17th, 2008 at 8:55 pm, sari Says:
well, I didn’t think it was actually possible for you to be any MORE beautiful, but I guess it is! You look amazing, I really love the brunette hair!
January 17th, 2008 at 9:38 pm, dcrmom Says:
So what did you think of Idol?
Your hair. Wow. Well, it’s different. LOL. You’re gorgeous no matter what, but I’m partial to the blond. Maybe b/c I’m a brunette and have coveted blond hair my whole life? And go figure, I end up with two blond daughters. Life is so NOT FAIR. Hmph.
January 18th, 2008 at 4:17 am, ashley Says:
you look bbbbeeeaautiful! I love it. Makes you eyes look amazing.
January 18th, 2008 at 2:34 pm, Nicki Says:
I really like it, but then again, I’m a very dark brunette myself. I’ve been deciding on whether to go a much ligher shade lately, but am afraid my hair will turn orange. Hmmmm. Decisions.
I’m so sorry about your waiting process. It’s got to be agonizing. We’re tentatively thinking about adopting. The process doesn’t sound very incouraging, but it’s so worth it in the end, right?
January 20th, 2008 at 12:32 am, Mrs. Baker Says:
Love it!
And hilarious….only because I chopped off my hair off yesterday…
Yes out of the blue decided to chop of 7 inches of my hair.
And then I read this.
Yes we may be soul mates.
