Moving on

So, as I mentioned in my last post, one of the reasons we are moving is because we live next to a deranged psychopath who makes our lives miserable. To dispell all rumors of my percieved paranoia, I plan to showcase the evidence very soon in a post entitled “The Angriest Hippie; A Children’s Story”. You won’t be dissapointed and you will then completely understand why we have decided to stick our tails between our legs and book it in the other direction instead of putting up the good fight.

The other reason we are moving is because we need the money out of this house for the adoption.

But there are many aspects of this house and it’s surroundings that we are going to really miss. We live in downtown Boise and we therefore live with the side effects of downtown craziness. Downtown living is in a league of it’s own. You have angry hippies across the street, the renters next door are growing weed, the guy down the street has PLASTIC GRASS in his front yard, the police often visit the meth addict down a couple houses and the guy that is kiddie-corner to us has orange plastic construction gates surrounding his driveway, for reasons we are unaware of. I mean, it doesn’t get much more interesting that that!

But we also get to live next to the cream of the crop, some of the kindest, caring and most open minded people you can imagine. We get to see marathons, street fairs, we can hear the BSU games from our front yard, we can walk to the parade route and we actually get to expose our kid to BLACK PEOPLE! INDIAN PEOPLE! ASIAN PEOPLE! GAY PEOPLE! We genuinely love that.

So we are a bit sad at leaving. And last night when I saw this, I was overcome with sadness because I just don’t think we will see signage like this in our new Stepford subdivision:

So long little house and little neighborhood. So long sirens that blaze by every night. So long dog worshippers and tree huggers. So long Volkswagon busses and “THE ONLY BUSH I TRUST IS MY OWN” stickers. So long city squirrels that eat from our hands. So long coffee shops on every corner. So long yard art. So long scooters and hybrid cars. So long, we will miss you but our kids needs sidewalks and backyards. Our kids need other kids with nice parents. You understand right? We have enjoyed you while it lasted.

To all my pretend readers, I will be back in a few days. Wish us luck out there with the power walkers and Sport Utility Vehicles.

  1. oh how this post made me laugh. we too live among the urbanites - not the coffee shop urbanites, the grafitti ones. :) you may escape to Edward Scissorhands land for a time, but you will be back (we lived in the Colorado version for four years and couldn’t do it any longer)!

  2. Oh, you’ll love the ‘burbs! Really. You will. We moved from a very interesting downtown location (not a large city like Boise, but an old industrial town having a revitalization, really cool) to a Stepford neighborhood in the country/suburbs. I loved the city. And I love this. It’s all good! I hope you find the same.

  3. Good luck, guys! There’s nothing like living in the city–but I’m sure you’ll find the joys of suburban living.
